Creation of transcripts and use of AI technologies:
This project makes use of WhisperAI, an automated speech-to-text tool, to assist with the creation of transcriptions of audio-visual interviews. While WhisperAI provides a high level of accuracy, errors and omissions may occur. All audio files using WhisperAI are processed locally and are not uploaded to external servers or cloud platforms. Transcription files and original recordings are stored on encrypted local drives with restricted access to authorised researchers only. In some instances, researchers have made minor edits to transcripts for readability and to ensure they reflect participants’ intended meaning.
Enhancing Interview Accessibility
To ensure our interviews are accessible to a wider audience, we’ve implemented the following inclusive practices:
Captions for all videos
Every interview video includes captions to support viewers who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or prefer reading along.
Summaries and Keywords for Transcripts
Each transcript begins with a concise summary and a set of keywords. These have been created by researchers using Indigenous storywork and deep listening methodologies, offering respectful and meaningful context for each conversation.
